TITLE 1 PRESCHOOL INFORMATION & FAQ's

WHO can attend Title 1 Preschool?
-
The child must turn 3 or 4 years old before September 2, 2022. (If the child is 5 years old by September 2nd, he/she is NOT ELIGIBLE for Title 1 or tuition-based preschool through the district.)
- The child's parent/guardian must live within the boundaries of the participating Title 1 school. Babysitters or daycare providers do not count.
- The child will be assigned to a 2.5-hour class held twice a week. Acceptance letters will be mailed out by the end of May.

HOW do we sign up for Title 1 Preschool?
Each child will need to attend the free screening appointment in order to be eligible for a Title 1 spot. The appointment will take about 30 minutes, depending on the child's cooperation. A parent/guardian must attend the appointment with the child, and must bring TWO forms of proof of residency (printed documents with parent/guardian name & address: utility/phone/gas bill, driver's license, insurance card, bank statement, etc.). WHAT is Title 1? WHY does it exist?
Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state. This basically means free preschool for kids who are identified as being at-risk.

Title 1 spots are very limited, and your child is not guaranteed a spot just because you bring them to a screening appointment.
We strongly recommend that you have a community/neighborhood preschool lined up as a backup plan.
