State Report Requirements

1. A 2-3 page report following the outline below with a creative cover.

2. Complete any one of the “choice activities” listed at home.

State Report Outline

Take notes on three of the sections listed and keep the notes to turn in with your finished report. You’ll need 5-6 facts for each section. Each section is a paragraph in your report.


I. State Data & Interesting Facts (which may include:)

• Date of statehood and an explanation of how the state received the name.

• State symbols: (three interesting ones)

• Nicknames and the reason for the nickname

• Interesting facts (not included in other sections)

II. History (which may include:)

• Important Historical Events

• Famous People

III. Land & Climate (which may include:)

• Description of major land regions and forms (i.e. mountainous, desert, plains, etc.)

• Major rivers, lakes, and coastlines

• Climate (seasons, warm, cold, average winter or summer temps.)

IV. Culture/Lifestyle (which may include:)

• Recreation

• Foods

• Arts

• Sports

V. Major Tourist Attractions

Note: We want you to sell us on your state, so focus on what makes your state different from the others around the country. Tell us what is unique!

Choice Activities

1. Write a one page report on a famous person or place from your state.

2. Interview someone who has lived in your state. Record the interview.

3. Make a mural of several historical events from your state.

4. Make a travel poster or brochure encouraging people to visit your state.

5. Make a model of a famous landmark or building from your state.

6. Make a map of your state including the major cities and landforms.

7. Design an activity of your own (Please clear it with me first).

Your report will be put on display for others to see and enjoy. Do your best work and be proud of it.
