Curriculum

Language Arts

Students will receive reading instruction at their own level. We will be using Journeys literacy and spelling program. Students will write opinion, informative, and narrative texts.

Math

This year 5th grade math will be taught in rotations based on student needs. This may mean that your student’s regular math teacher may not be the same as their homeroom teacher. The following 5 domains will be our focus throughout the year: Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Number and Operations in Base Ten, Number and Operations – Fractions, Measurement and Data, and Geometry. We will be using the My Math program to teach each learning domain.

Science

There are five science units in fifth grade. They are chemical and physical changes in matter, Earth’s surface, magnets, electricity, and inherited traits.

Social Studies

We will be studying the history of the United States.
