July 2017 Updates

Assuming you know these updates...Add, order, nest, & delete pages

If not, check out Google's support page on these topics.

Let's check out what Google has been up to!

August 2017 Updates

Custom URLs:

  • For example, you can map the default URL http://sites.google.com/example.com/mysite to a custom URL, such as mysite.example.com.
  • Check Google's support page on how to change your URL. You must have administrator's rights to do this.

September 2017 Updates

SEARCHING:

  • You can find the search button at the top right of your site.
  • Limitations:
    • If you search from your new Google Site with a custom domain web address mapping the results are displayed with the unmapped (sites.google.com) URL.
    • You will not get the content of embedded Google Drive items, e.g. Google Docs, PDFs or Word Documents, will not appear in the search results.

EMBEDDING:

  • Going forward, you can embed an entire webpage as an iframe in a new Google site. This will allow you to pull in content from other websites and Google tools like Apps Script, Data Studio, and App Maker, saving you the trouble of duplicating and updating that information on your page. Simply select “Embed URL” from the Insert menu. Note that this will only work if the webpage you’re trying to add allows embedding.

Even Embed a Google Drive folder!

  1. Share your Google Folder (change the share settings)
  2. Copy the URL
  3. In Sites, click Embed URL and paste the URL!
  4. Yes! If you upload a new file to the folder you shared, it will update on your site!

OCTOBER 2017 Updates

  • Use the more, three-dot button to create a subpage
    • Click and drag a page to move up and down the hierarchy
    • Use the keyboard shortcuts to move pages: use the Ctrl+/ (Cmd+/ on a Mac) to see the keyboard shortcuts.
    • All 5 page levels appear in the navigation (see demo)
  • Protection: Pages with subpages cannot be deleted: you need to delete the subpages first.
