In second grade, we focus on building strong, confident readers and writers. Students practice important reading skills such as fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. They grow as writers by learning to organize their ideas into well-written paragraphs with correct grammar and punctuation. We use a variety of engaging resources and activities to meet each child's needs and help them develop a lifelong love of reading and writing!
Second graders build a strong foundation in number sense and problem-solving. Students also work with shapes, fractions, time, money, data, and measurement. By the end of the year, they are introduced to the foundations of multiplication and division, preparing them for future math success!

Students study important people and events, practice map and globe skills, and begin to understand how choices and rules affect communities. Through these lessons, they build an appreciation for citizenship and the world around them.
