Attention, brave scholars of the frozen frontier…
The snow is falling sideways. The wind howls like a pack of wolves. Our supplies are low, and the Wi-Fi signal is weaker than a candle in a blizzard. Still, we must press on. The only thing that can keep our minds sharp and our spirits alive is… learning!
Each day, as you fight against frostbite and boredom, you must complete one writing task from the Winter ELA Mini Choice Board. Choose wisely. Your pencil may freeze mid-sentence if you hesitate too long.
Your Mission Orders:
Select one option per remote learning day.
Read your chosen prompt carefully—these are your written rations for the day.
Write your response neatly and completely. Even in the Arctic, grammar matters.
Keep your completed pages safe from snow, sleet, and snack crumbs.
When the storm passes and school reopens, turn in your work to prove you have survived the Great Remote Freeze of 2026.
May your words burn brighter than a campfire in a whiteout, and may your creativity thaw even the coldest of days.
Signed,
Captain Jarrell, Commander of the 6th Grade Arctic Literary Expedition
Option 1: Winter Personification
Pretend Winter is a person. Write 3–4 sentences describing what Winter would look like, sound like, and act like.
Option 2: Letter to Summer

Option 3: Five Senses Winter Snapshot
Use your five senses to describe a winter scene. Write one sentence for each sense: what do you see, hear, smell, taste, and feel?
Option 4: Cozy Winter Setting
Imagine your perfect cozy winter day. Write 4–5 sentences describing where you are, what you see, and what you’re doing. Use adjectives to make your description come alive!
Option 5: Winter Word Challenge
Create one sentence for each of the following five words: frost, flurry, cocoa, mittens, sparkle. Make sure your sentences show meaning, not just tell.
Option 6: Snowstorm Story Starter
Use this story starter to begin a short paragraph (4–6 sentences): “The wind howled as the first snowflakes began to fall...” What happens next?
