Week of 1/19 - 1/23
ELA (Barus) -This week we will be reading an autobiography called, Trombone Shorty. This is a story about Troy Andrews who grew up in New Orleans and began playing the trombone at age 4. He even led his own band at age 8! The essential question that will guide our reading is, "How does music bring people together?" We will focus on author's purpose and making connections when we read. All spelling will be done in class this week, so there will be no spelling homework. Our Reading NC Check-In will be on Friday. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, eats breakfast and is on time for school.
ELA (Cline) -In ELA, students will begin Unit 3 in our SAVVAS curriculum by reading the realistic fiction story Out of My Mind. They will focus on learning new vocabulary, answering comprehension questions, and deepening their understanding of the text. Students will also complete ELA and Math Check-Ins during the week. Additionally, we are excited to have the opportunity to meet the author, Jonathan Miller. Students will continue practicing new spelling words and learning new word patterns.

Please make sure your child is using the provided websites and materials to continue to study multiplication facts. We need to accomplish memory recall of facts before the year is out.

~Expect homework nightly. Please look at your child's planner to see what homework they have and sign that they have completed it.
~Fourth grade is a year in which we encourage responsibility and independence. Hold your children accountable for listing homework in their agenda and having all the materials they need to do work at home and at school.
~Ways to help your student at home:
Have them work on any of the digital platforms that we use during the school day. This includes: Reflex, Readworks, Moby Max, and Epic. Ms. Hennessey provided some math websites during open house that can also be used.
Study nightly with spelling and vocabulary words.
Make sure your child completes all homework and any other incomplete work in their green homework folders nightly.
