Welcome to the Notre Dame Family Faith Site
We believe participating in a family program provides:
An opportunity to learn and grow in faith together,
The ability to bring faith into work, school, home life,
Jumping off point for deeper at-home conversations AND
Quality family time
Family Faith Program Components:
Going to ONE Monthly Session. Children and their parents gather together once a month, on a day of their choosing to celebrate family, break open the Word, and learn more about the Catholic faith. This family gathering will be the “class”. Sessions are approx. 1 hour - 1 hour and 15 minutes
Attending Family Masses. Celebrating Sunday Mass is an important part of our program and our faith. Regular Sunday Mass attendance is part of our program, however once a month we will have a special Family Mass at 10am which acts as a second session per month.
Participating in Social Outreach and Parish Activities. Service and community activites are important to us. We will have a variety of parish activities to participate in throughout the year.
Completing an at home activity related to the program and checking in!
The Sacraments:
First Reconciliation: This sacrament is typically received in Second Grade before receiving First Communion.
First Communion: Formal preparation starts in First Grade and continues through Second Grade. As your child prepares, we strongly encourage all families to regularly attend Mass. Mass participation is key in the preparation for this sacrament. Listening to God's Word, coming to the table and being part of a community is central to our Catholic faith.
Confirmation: Children receive this sacrament in spring of 8th grade. In preparation, children will have ideally completed 8 years of Family Faith formation (Religious Education).
(Archdiocese of Newark guidelines require the continuation for religious education formation for all eight years in preparation for Confirmation in 8th grade.)
And:
We know that family life does not always follow a straight path. Please reach out to us with any questions.
We welcome conversations to better serve you.
