Counseling curriculum consists of structured lessons designed to help students achieve the desired competencies and to provide all students with the knowledge and skills appropriate for their development.
Academic: Learning about Academic Success
Career: Learning about Career and Life Planning
Social Emotional: Learning about Self and Others
Ongoing activities are designed to help students establish personal goals and develop future plans as they relate to academic development, career development, social emotional development, college selection and standardized testing.
Responsive services are interventions to resolve immediate conflicts, respond to crisis events, and intervene in school specific situations that disrupt learning.
Consultation - consult with parents, teachers and community based mental health professions to support and advocate for students.
Individual/ Small Group Counseling - counsel students with identified needs and to provide immediate, short term interventions.
Preventative Interventions - ongoing interventions that reduce the need for crisis management. Intervention goals include the development of attitude, knowledge and skills which build student self-worth, resiliency, optimism and future orientation.

The objective of Notre Dame College Prep’s school counseling program is to support the mission of Notre Dame College Prep by promoting and enhancing the fulfillment of the whole person with respect to each student’s development in faith, scholarship, and social responsibility. Our comprehensive approach involves supporting the success of all students by providing academic, college and career, and personal/social counseling. In collaboration with faculty members, parents/guardians, and the greater community, our goal is to help students become lifelong learners, personally responsible, and productive members in a diverse and ever-changing society.
It is our belief, in the Notre Dame College Prep Counseling Department, that all students have equal access to a comprehensive school counseling program, and that our program is an integral component of the overall educational experience. By being both preventive and proactive, we believe that every Notre Dame College Prep student can develop academic, college and career, and personal/social goals, and work collaboratively to achieve them.
The school counselors at Notre Dame College Prep believe:
All students have the right to participate in the school counseling program
Every student is valuable and treated with dignity and respect
All students’ ethnic, cultural, racial, and special needs are considered in the design and delivery of school counseling services
All students can achieve when given the proper support
All students will have access to high quality school counseling services, provided by full-time licensed, professional school counselors
The school counseling program at Notre Dame College Prep should:
Be student-centered
Be based on specific goals and developmental abilities for all students
Be collaborative with faculty, parents/guardians, and community resources to ensure all student needs are being properly met
Use data to make decisions about program implementation
Be preventive and proactive when addressing the needs of students
Notre Dame College Prep counselors will:
Support students through a set counseling curriculum, as well as individual and small group counseling
Collaborate with school faculty, parents/guardians, and community resources to help in the development of our students
Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as stipulated by the American School Counselor Association
Participate in professional development opportunities to continue to improve the comprehensive counseling program by making use of the most current resources and best practices
As Counselors at Notre Dame College Prep, we strive to play an integral role in the lives of each of our students. Please know that as we work with you and your son we are bound by the Code of Ethics of the American School Counselors’ Association. Confidentiality is always protected to the extent allowed by law. It is our goal to help your son meet their fullest potential at Notre Dame and beyond. Please also recognize that achieving this goal should be a collaborative effort at school and at home.
