Fly to South Bend 

You can book a flight to South Bend International Airport, located about 15-20 minutes from the Notre Dame campus. Taxis are usually easy to hail at the airport; the trip to campus will run approximately $25-35 USD. Ride-sharing services like Uber are also available. If you choose to rent a car, the airport has representatives from most of the major car rental agencies. If you are flying to KI-SPA, we highly recommend this option to save time and money while simplifying your journey.

Fly to Chicago 

Flights to the two major Chicago area airports, O’Hare International Airport or Midway International Airport, are often cheaper in flight feed but require additional commute time and costs of approximately $300 one way to South Bend by car or rail.

You can take public transit from the airports into downtown Chicago (Chicago Transit Authority; Blue Line from O’Hare or Orange Line from Midway) and catch the South Shore Line commuter train, which departs from Millennium Station and terminates at the South Bend Regional Airport.

If you choose to drive, South Bend is about 2.5 to 3.0 hours from O’Hare Airport and 1.5 to 2.0 hours from Midway Airport, depending on traffic. The freeways to Northern Indiana from the southeastern edge of the city require toll payments, as does the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90) to South Bend. A one-way drive from Chicago to South Bend is estimated to cost $15-$20 USD in tolls.

From Chicago 

The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) operates train service between Millennium Station in Chicago and South Bend International Airport. Tickets may be purchased at Millennium Station, which is also known as the Randolph St. Station. It can be accessed from the southwest corner of Michigan Ave. and Randolph St. For a full schedule of departure times and stops, visit the NICTD website and look for the South Shore Line.

From East/West 

Amtrak offers rail service to South Bend as a stop on the Lake Shore Limited route or to Niles, Michigan, as a stop on the Michigan Services route. The South Bend train station is located on the near west side of downtown South Bend. Taxis and cars are not typically waiting at the station, so telephone for cab service or arrange for an Uber pickup. The train station in Niles is located on Dey St. downtown, approximately 11 miles north of South Bend.

From East/West 

The University of Notre Dame campus is located just south of the Indiana Toll Road, which is Interstate 80/90. If coming east from Chicago or west from Ohio, take Exit 77 for South Bend/Notre Dame, and at the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto IN 933. Travel south, passing Saint Mary’s College and Holy Cross College on your right. At the fourth stoplight, turn left onto Angela Blvd. Follow Angela Blvd to the first stoplight and turn left onto Notre Dame Ave. This is the main entrance to campus.

For visitor parking, turn right at the first stop sign, onto Holy Cross Dr. Continue through the next intersection (a four-way stop at Eddy St.) and look for the paid visitor lot on the right, just past the Walsh Family Hall of Architecture.

From South 

The University of Notre Dame campus is located just north of downtown South Bend. Take US 31 north from Indianapolis. At the city outskirts of South Bend, the freeway will end and become Michigan St. and IN 933. At this juncture, US 31 joins US 20 in a bypass loop around the metro area; do not enter that freeway. Stay on Michigan St. and travel into downtown South Bend.

Continue on Michigan St. north out of downtown, passing through two roundabouts and crossing the St. Joseph River. Go straight through the first stoplight (North Shore Blvd.), and then turn right at the second stoplight, onto Angela Blvd. Follow Angela Blvd to the first stoplight and turn left onto Notre Dame Ave. This is the main entrance to campus.

From South Bend Airport 

Exit left through the roundabout onto Lincoln Way West and US 20. Take Lincoln Way West into downtown South Bend. After crossing the St. Joseph River, go straight through the first stoplight (North Shore Blvd.), and then turn right at the second stoplight, onto Angela Blvd. Follow Angela Blvd to the first stoplight and turn left onto Notre Dame Ave. This is the main entrance to campus.
