As a club, our mission is to provide friendship, mentorship, and support for children in the South Bend community who have siblings with disabilities. We know what it's like to grow up with a sibling with a disability because all of us have siblings with special needs too! This unique connection allows us to bond with the Little Sibs (children from the community) and provide them with support and a feeling of camaraderie. We have meetings every 3 weeks on campus at Notre Dame, and during these 'Sib Chats,' we eat pizza, play games, and talk about the unique aspects of growing up with a sibling with a disability.
Growing up with a sibling with special needs is a unique experience. It comes with certain challenges that many kids are reluctant to bring up with their friends because they don't think their friends will "get it". The great thing about SuperSibs is that we all get it. We can relate to each other's experiences in a low-stress environment. As college students, we are often able to offer a perspective on having a sibling with a disability that many kids haven't thought about yet. All in all, that opens the door for more positive outlooks on growing up with a sibling with special needs.
Super Sibs is comprised of a group of college students from the University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary's College, and Holy Cross College, as well as children and teens ages 6-14 from the South Bend and Michiana communities. Everyone in the club has a sibling with a disability.
Typically our meetings are from 6:30-8:00 PM on Wednesdays, although occasionally we meet on a different day to attend special events such as sports games. For more information on the Super Sibs Fall 2025 schedule, please check out the "Upcoming Events" tab!
For the Fall 2025 semester, meetings will primarily be held in Cavanaugh Hall's 24-lounge, nicknamed the Cave by its residents. All of the executive board members for the upcoming year are proud residents! Parents can drop off at Library Circle, accessible without gate entry and through Maps driving instructions, where students will meet and host walkovers to the dorm.
