The Society of Schmitt Fellows aims to help Schmitt Fellows become the moral and just leaders that Arthur J. Schmitt envisioned. It is a student-run organization that tries to accomplish this goal by building a community of like-minded graduate students devoted to academics and outreach. It works to facilitate holistic graduate education through leadership, outreach, and education opportunities. The society meets monthly to provide a forum for Schmitt fellows to help accomplish their three main goals – promote community outreach, encourage social and collaborative interaction among fellows and communicate with the Schmitt foundation and Schmitt fellows outside Notre Dame. Through society meetings, Schmitt fellows have coordinated service opportunities, planned a leadership conference with Schmitt fellows from other institutions, and organized social events, including bowling and baseball games. The society constantly looks to expand its efforts to fulfill Arthur J. Schmitt’s vision for a better world.
