About Me

Emily Anderson is a PhD Candidate at the University of Notre Dame. There, she studies American Politics and Political Methodology. She is particularly focused on state politics and political parties. Prior to graduate school, Emily spent several years working in the Wisconsin State Legislature as a Legislative Assistant.

She is published in outlets including British Journal of Political Science and Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Policy. Her work has also been presented at the Midwest Political Science Association annual conference and the Society for Political Methodology 'PolMeth' conference.

Emily has instructed both in the classroom and online. Most recently, she was the instructor of record for "State Government and Politics", an intermediate-level undergraduate seminar which included lectures on fiscal policy, local government, and the legislative process. Previously, she taught the online, synchronous course "How to (Not) Lie with Statistics" at the University of Notre Dame. She has guest lectured on the presidency in "U.S. Congress" and the potential outcomes framework for "Introduction to Quantitative Methods" (graduate course). She also guest lectured on college writing, troubleshooting in R, and various methods topics in her time at Notre Dame.

Emily's dissertation focuses on the institutional design and strength of state-level political party organizations and the corresponding impact on state democratic health across the United States.

Outside of academic work, Emily is an avid gardener and loves a good home improvement project. A born and raised midwesterner, she wishes for snow every December and wishes it would all melt by February.
