The second CGM@ND workshop is part of a series organized by the Howk-Lehner CGM (circumgalactic medium) group at the University of Notre Dame that aims to engage a small group (40-50) of astronomers in discussing the factors that drive the evolution of galaxies over cosmic time. We will bring together observational and theoretical astronomers to exchange their views on the limitations in their fields, which are not always apparent when simply reading the literature, to work to bridge the gap between experimental and theoretical results and discoveries.
The first CGM@ND workshop was a three day workshop held in February 2014 at the University of Notre Dame. Based on the overwhelmingly positive response from the participants of the first workshop, our aim is to revisit the goals of the original meeting regularly, hosting workshops at various Notre Dame Global Centers around the world about every ~3–5 years to allow for the field to evolve between each workshop. The second workshop was initially planned for late-summer 2020, but it was canceled owing to the global pandemic. It will now be held in the Kylemore Abbey Global Center of the University of Notre Dame from September 3 to 15, 2023.
Our next workshop will be longer than typical conferences, at the urging of our Scientific Organizing Committee and other members of the community. Both the remote location and longer workshop format will allow us to engage our colleagues in detailed discussions, proposal planning, and collaboration not possible in a typical conference setting.
