Hello! I’m Troy Larsen, a Goodnight Doctoral Fellow and Ph.D. student in Applied Mathematics at NC State University, where I am advised by Dr. Alen Alexanderian. Broadly speaking, my research focuses on global sensitivity analysis for uncertainty quantification. I am particularly interested in how tools from functional analysis and reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces can yield interpretable, robust sensitivity measures, especially for models arising in the life sciences. These interdisciplinary interests have led to collaborations in the NSF Research Training Group UQ4Life and the Comparative Medicine Institute, where I currently serve as a Young Scholar.
I hold a B.S. in Mathematics and Classics from Washington and Lee University, where I graduated summa cum laude in 2022. Before beginning graduate school, I spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar in Hungary and earned high honors at Budapest Semesters in Mathematics.
In addition to my research, I am deeply committed to teaching and academic mentorship. At NC State, I have taught and supported students across the undergraduate mathematics curriculum, with a focus on clarity, inclusivity, and conceptual understanding. I am also actively involved in departmental and university-level service, particularly in roles centered on student success and community building. Feel free to contact me at tjlarse2@ncsu.edu regarding research collaborations, teaching, or academic opportunities.
