NC State University Honors Program Fall Break Trip Overview
Why a city (and a city known to be grey and drizzly most of the year, at that)? The University Honors Program (UHP) takes students to many beautiful, warm and sunny destinations for student breaks all the time. But we chose to go to Seattle, Washington, USA as our Fall Break destination because...
By the year 2050, 68% percent of the world’s population is expected to be living in cities/urban areas.
That means we need to do what we can to make sure these areas are planned, constructed, and/or revitalized to be as safe, resilient, sustainable, and inclusive as possible! NC State students must help Think and Do the extraordinary when it comes to the places humans will live and impact with their activities, now and in the future.
By participating on the Sustainable Cities & Communities spring break trip, NC State UHP students will:
Visit a city nationally-recognized for its sustainability initiatives and culture;
Name examples of ways that we can make cities and human settlements more inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable; and
Have fun! It is Fall Break after all...
The University Honors Program provides a breadth and depth of unique educational experiences that engage academically-motivated students in transformative experiential learning for the duration of their college careers. Our students maintain a GPA of at least 3.25, complete at least twelve (12) hours of advanced Honors coursework, participate in two (2) semesters of Honors Forum (a foundational course that exposes Honors students to controversial issues, cutting-edge technologies, and a range of questions drawn from the arts, the sciences, and politics), reflect on at least three high impact experiences, and create and publish a culminating digital portfolio in their senior year.
