Professional Biography

Steve Bert is the Program Manager of ITRE's Economic and Policy Assessment Group. His professional career has included both academic and consultative services in the areas of economic impact analysis, economic development, data analysis and visualization, policy evaluation and implementation, urban and rural planning, communications, marketing, and graphic design. The connection between economics, policy, and quality of life is a keen focus of Steve’s current research, for which he conducts input-output modeling, wider economic benefit evaluations, and non-market valuations. 


As a key collaborator within ASSURE, the Federal Aviation Administration’s Center of Excellence for UAS Research, Steve conducts demand forecasting, site suitability analyses, market analyses, and other economic assessments pertaining to AAM passenger and cargo movement. His research products have led to sustained or increased funding for all modes of transportation in North Carolina, the implementation of transportation and health project prioritization programs in North Carolina and Delaware, and strategies to mitigate disparate impacts and disproportionate burdens confronting City of Raleigh transit customers.

Steve takes an active role in professional service activities in the industry serving as the Communications Coordinator for the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Economic Development and Land Use (AMS50).
