Steve Allen is Professor of Economics at NC State University. He has undergraduate and master’s degrees from Michigan State and a PhD in economics from Harvard. He has been on the faculty at NC State for his entire career, serving for several years as Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Research in the Poole College of Management. He also has been a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Mass., a fellow of the Employee Benefits Research Institute, and two Fulbright Awards. He was awarded the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence in 2016, the highest faculty recognition at NC State.
Allen has taught courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, labor economics, and human resource management at NC State. His research has focused on absenteeism, employee benefits, labor turnover, productivity, retirement, unions, technological change, and wage determination. It has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the Sloan Foundation and the US Department of Labor. His research has been covered by the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, Newsweek and ABC News.
