VR Guide: Getting Started with Virtual Reality

Before you begin, please follow these steps to prepare for your NC State Virtual Organic Chemistry Lab experience.

Decide how you would like to experience the virtual lab: computer or mobile device (e.g., smartphone or tablet).

Computer

Click the link or enter it into your browser window.

Use your mouse or keyboard to explore the lab and make selections.

Click and drag your mouse or use the arrows to look all around the 360-degree view!

Mobile Device

Scroll down to "Mobile Device Screenshots (iPhone Xs)" to view screenshots of each step.

Step 1. Download and install the Wonda VR app for iOS or Android. (IMPORTANT: This step must be completed first!)

Step 2. Open Wonda VR app on your mobile device.

Step 3. Scan the QR code using a separate scanning app. (For example, on iPhone Xs use the camera to scan the QR code and select "Open 'go.ncsu.edu' in Safari.")

Step 4. The Virtual Organic Chemistry Lab opens first in a web browser window.

Step 5. Click the arrow to open theVirtual Organic Chemistry Lab in the Wonda VR app.*

*IF after clicking the arrow, your device goes from the web browser to the WondaVR app loading page, simply click “Open”

Step 6. Choose your viewing mode: Magic Window or Google Cardboard.*

Step 7. The first screen is the "Health and Safety Warning" (Screenshot shows Google Cardboard mode.). Position the white dot on the box labeled "Click to Continue." Wait for the white dot to open to a white circle as shown in screenshot.

Step 8. You are now in the NC State Virtual Organic Chemistry Lab. (In Google Cardboard, remember to use gaze navigation to make selections.)

Magic Window

Select the mobile device icon.

Simply move your device in all directions to view the entire 360-degree environment.

Position the white dot on screen to make selections.

Google Cardboard

Select the Google Cardboard icon.

Place the smartphone into your NC State Google Cardboard and adjust tabs for clearest view.

Please sit down to explore the virtual organic chemistry lab--a swivel chair works best!

Turn your head in all directions to view the entire 360-degree environment.

Use "gaze navigation" to position the white dot on screen to make selections.

Gaze Navigation

See Mobile Device Screenshots (iPhone Xs) Step 7 screenshot.

Wonda VR uses a white dot that is guided by your head motion--NOT your eyes--to select a target.

Gaze navigation requires you to look at a specific area, place the white dot directly on that area, and hold your gaze steady until the white dot expands to a white circle. When the circle reaches full size, an action will occur (e.g., a checkbox is selected, feedback appears, or the next VR video plays)

TIP: If you are having difficulty, try looking a little below the area you are attempting to select.
