This project was created by Allison Stewart @allisunrae at Centennial Middle School.
This project mimics the Space X challenge that is happening to have private industry fly to space. Here is a video that explains the History of Space X. There are 4 steps to this project. Select whether you want to build a space station, a transport ship or rover. The first step is to research what will your space vehicle need. The second step is to design your craft to be printed out. The 3rd step is to build a brochure to inform a person about your product. The 4th step is to create a elevator pitch presentation to sell your product to someone.
Step 1
Find web sites with text and images to help you with the design needs of craft. There have been variety of ideas of how to send people or materials into space.
Step 2
Step 2 has a couple components to it. The 1st component is to get a piece of graph paper to draw your design in 2D. It is important to sketch out your idea on paper to speed up the pace of designing in cad. Using your drawing, break the design into its base shapes. The 2nd component is to create an account on Tinkercad. Tinkercad is a shape-based building cad system that can export out as a 3D printable file. Check out the Project Ignite web site to learn how to use Tinkercad.
Step 3
Use a software that you are comfortable using to create a brochure. You will probably want to research want to research what a good brochure looks like. There are templates in Word and Google Docs that can be use to get started. Remember to use clear images to help sell your design.
Step 4
You are going to have to find a funder for your product. Create a 3 minute presentation which is sometimes elevator speech. You can use as many slide as you need but remember that you only have 3 minutes.
