I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Human Services, and a minor in Statistics in 2021. I am currently pursuing my M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at North Carolina State University. My long term goals include receiving licensure in the state of North Carolina as an LCMHC as well as, become a nationally certified counselor. My research interests include childhood trauma and how it manifests itself in early adulthood as mental illness. Other interests include eliminating mental health stigma, rural mental health, and increasing access to care.
I am hoping to provide therapy to individuals regardless of race, gender, sexual identity, socio-economic status, etc. I believe that the development of cultural humility & multicultural competency will help me to achieve this goal. Moreover, cultural humility does not happen overnight and it is a life-long process of change and an eagerness to learn. Multiculturalism will be a facet that I continue to work on throughout my career. My population of interest is children between the ages of 6 and 13 experiencing anxiety and anger as a result of DSS involvement and possible removal/reintegration from/with their primary caregivers. I also enjoying assisting parents of children on the Autism Spectrum, and individuals throughout the entire lifespan navigating life's challenges.
I currently reside in Durham, NC with my partner Scott and our dogs, Apollo and Mercy. I love all things outdoors; hiking, mountain views, and when I get the opportunity I like to try my hand at kayaking. For self-care I love utilizing incense and essential oils for aromatherapy, and I have a new found love of knitting. I also enjoy spending the evenings walking and communing with nature.
Fun Fact: An animal that represents me is an elephant because like elephants, I make pathways for other animals(humans). Elephants are also capable of complex emotion. They happen to be my favorite animal because they help to maintain ecosystems, and they are beautiful creatures.
