Crystal Island: Uncharted Discovery is a game-based learning environment for upper elementary science education with a focus on landforms, navigation, and modeling. It features a science adventure where a group of stranded explorers are trying to contact the outside world for rescue.

Crystal Island: Uncharted Discovery leverages the inferential capabilities of intelligent tutoring systems and the compelling immersive worlds of commercial game engines. To support large-scale deployments, Crystal Island was designed as a cloud-based web application.

The curriculum underlying Crystal Island: Uncharted Discovery is derived from the North Carolina Essential Standards for Science landforms curriculum with a focus on maps and models. Students learn about landforms, maps, and models while getting customized advice on tasks.
