Crystal Island was designed and developed at the North Carolina State University Center for Educational Informatics. Since its inception, more than forty curriculum specialists, computer scientists, game designers, educational psychologists, and digital artists have contributed to its research and development. Research on game-based learning conducted with Crystal Island has been reported in a broad range of publications. Support for the project has been provided by the National Science Foundation through the Directorate for Computer & Information Science & Engineering and the the Directorate for Education and Human Resources.
