Through this experience, we have learned the importance of understanding the developmental stages of high school students. This can be a great asset when preparing to implement resources for students to be successful in their classes and when they graduate and face society. For example; students shared: attitudes, confidence and socialization are the biggest changes from middle school. Having the guidance counselors provide programs to help students build positive relationships with peers and school staff and teach students how to adjust to new environment with unfamiliar people will help them face those challenges.
Once we become principals, we will use the feedback from our students to make decisions on school based projects. Creating surveys and having a suggestion box available, will help students feel that their voice plays a big part in making sure their school is a safe, engaging learning environment for the entire student body.
