Human Factors (HF) is defined by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society as "the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance." It is a combination of many fields, including Psychology, Engineering, Computer Science, and more! Many technologies and products you interact with were probably researched by HF professionals before ever reaching you. Are you interested in the methods HF researchers use, or want to conduct a project yourself? Go to Overview for a table with examples of different kinds of research methods, or check the menu labelled "Types of Methods" on the upper right to go straight to each method's page. Want more HF? Check out Resources for links to outside websites pertaining to HF.
The purpose of this website is to provide the high school-aged students with understandable descriptions and examples of the various methods that we utilize in the field of human factors.
