About Me

Hi, my name is Kamari, and I am originally from Jacksonville, NC, where my closest family instilled traditional military values in me. My grandparents instilled respect, integrity, and initiative in my siblings and me at an early age. As I grew up and went to school in Charlotte, there was enough laxity in the strands that bound me to my traditional household, where I would find out who I am as a person.

While growing up and pursuing my education in Charlotte, I began my leadership journey that began when I picked up the violin. In the intimate setting of a small ensemble, I learned that true leadership lies in harmonizing individual strengths for the collective good of our sound. How I navigated these ensembles for a decade translates easily to how I work in groups: The best work showcases everyone's skill and never let your personal objectives disrupt the quality of work.

The Chancellor's Leadership Development Program refined my leadership mentality according to John Frost's Values-based Leadership which emphasizes the importance of leading and connecting with people through authenticity. I put this into practice by working with the Sustainability Stewards, where we focus on social sustainability on and off campus to foster an inclusive learning environment.

I am constantly seeking opportunities for personal and professional growth, especially as it applies to Industrial & Systems Engineering. That's why I am actively searching for an internship for the Summer of '24 to put the skills I've learned in class into practice by solving real-world challenges.

Personal Mission Statement:

I am a student of life in a constant state of practice in which I can not fail.
