INGO Demographic Diversity

Leadership and board governance play essential roles for organizational effectiveness and legitimacy of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs). In this research, Melonie Clarke and I analyze how the top 1% of US-based INGOs reported demographic data about their leaders and staff. Based on data collected in late 2024, we created a novel demographic diversity score (DDS) for each INGO based on GuideStar’s system highlighting five diversity categories and four organizational levels.
