The ES advising team encourages students to explore opportunities in and out of the classroom. High impact experiences are great ways to combine classroom knowledge with real world experiences.
There are many environmental student organizations that promote sustainability on and off campus. Students can connect with other environmentally-focused students to develop community.
Organizations and resources:
Make the world your classroom! Study Abroad provides the opportunity to live in a new country and experience different cultures while completing courses towards your degree. NC State offers many great short-term programs and has a semester-long program through the NC State European Center in Prague. There are many more programs available and students can learn more at the Study Abroad Office.
Your advisor can help you understand how study abroad courses may or may not count towards your degree. During the study abroad application process, you’ll work closely with your advisor to develop an academic plan that supports your study abroad goals and makes progress on your degree.
Are you interested in undergraduate research? If yes, please let your advisor know. They will provide advice on connecting with professors and seeking out research opportunities. The Office of Undergraduate Research is a great resource and they offer workshops and advice on securing undergraduate research. Finally, the Pathways to Science website is an excellent resource to find research opportunities outside of NC State.
If you have not completed your external learning experience requirement, please remember that environmental research may count towards this requirement. Please talk to your advisor to learn more about the external learning experience requirements and please visit the external learning experience webpage.
