Statistical consulting and collaboration is a natural extension of my interest in areas of application of statistical methods and theory. Training students in statistical consulting and collaboration skills is an exciting blend of my interests in applied statistics and education. Recently I have expanded this work to include broader themes of data science, and my students are from a larger set of fields than only statistics.

In 2020, I was on an invited panel at the Joint Statistical Meetings called "Strategies for Training the Next Generation of Applied Statisticians" where we introduced a series of consulting videos supported by ASA's 2019 Member Initiatives. These videos were made by Julia Sharp, Megan Higgs, and me, with the help of Ann Hess.
Julia Sharp, Zach Weller, and I turned those videos into a short course that has been offered at the Conference on Statistical Practice, the Joint Statistical Meetings, and as an ASA Traveling Short Course in 2022 and 2023. Julia and I also covered some of this material in a Statistically Speaking webinar for JMP Software called "The Art of Effective Statistical Collaboration."
Collaborating with the NC State Libraries and the Data Science Academy, I helped organize a workshop on consulting models funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. This has led to a special issue of the journal Stat and a second funded proposal that involves, among other things, a book writing project.
