Consulting and Collaboration

Statistical consulting and collaboration is a natural extension of my interest in areas of application of statistical methods and theory. Training students in statistical consulting and collaboration skills is an exciting blend of my interests in applied statistics and education. Recently I have expanded this work to include broader themes of data science, and my students are from a larger set of fields than only statistics.

You can learn more about the NC State Libraries and Data Science Academy's consulting efforts at our websites:

In 2020, I was on an invited panel at the Joint Statistical Meetings called "Strategies for Training the Next Generation of Applied Statisticians" where we introduced a series of consulting videos supported by ASA's 2019 Member Initiatives. These videos were made by Julia Sharp, Megan Higgs, and me, with the help of Ann Hess.

Julia Sharp, Zach Weller, and I turned those videos into a short course that has been offered at the Conference on Statistical Practice, the Joint Statistical Meetings, and as an ASA Traveling Short Course in 2022 and 2023. Julia and I also covered some of this material in a Statistically Speaking webinar for JMP Software called "The Art of Effective Statistical Collaboration."

Below are a couple of talks that I've given to non-statistical audiences. You can find some of my talks in the Statistics Power Half Hour collection at NC State Libraries. You can also find my cv below.

Power and Sample Size 10.16.19.pptx

The goal of this talk was to introduce power calculations to an audience of veterinary researchers.

Common Statistical Mistakes 4.12.16.pdf

This talk was for a group of veterinary residents, and the goal was to increase their comfort with statistics.
