Registration, Rules and Regulations
Rules and Regulations
Participants MUST be registered, and enrollment approved in their designated county at v2.4honline.com before registering for the Eggcellent Eggsplorers 4-H Chicken Chain.
Participants must be between the ages of 5-18, as of January 1st, 2023 and participate in 4-H in Alamance, Chatham, Guilford, or Moore County. Participants are recruited through correspondence, local 4-H clubs, and local media .
Participants will be required to attend a mandatory Animal Care and Biosecurity Workshop, Project Record Book Workshop, and Showmanship Clinic as part of the project.
Each participant will receive a maximum of 6 chicks, breed to be determined. Only female chicks will be ordered although males may still be delivered by surprise.
Each participant will be financially responsible for all expenses incurred during the program. (Feed, medication, housing, bedding, water, etc.)
Participants will raise the chicks to maturity (~6 months of age) or until the show and under the guidance and supervision of parents/guardians, with help from Extension Agents.
ALL participants must bring and show 3 chickens received for the program. If a participant does not show, they forfeit all premiums and awards. The ONLY exception to this is in the event of a confirmed disaster that destroys a flock. If you have a qualifying disaster, you must contact your county Agent(s) immediately (24 hours) so they may verify.
Project record books must be completed and turned in by the deadline to receive premiums. Record books are due to your county office February 21st by 5:00pm. NO RECORD BOOK, NO PREMIUM.
All decisions by the judge are final. Direct criticism or interference with the judge, show, or chicken show management, other exhibitors, breed representatives, or show officials before, during, or after the show is prohibited. Potential disqualification from future events after review is possible.
Youth who live in the same household and compete in different age groups can share a set of 6 birds. Each child will receive a t-shirt and be eligible for premium money.
Registration forms and entry fees are due by August 4th by 5:00 PM.
Any special considerations not covered in the rules will be decided by the Eggcellent Eggsplorers 4-H Chicken Chain Committee.
