Rules

The Clover Classic Livestock Show will be held April 2 (Beef heifers and steers) and April 3 ( meat-type breeding ewes, market lambs, meat-type breeding does, and market goat wethers) at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds (home of the Carolina Classic Fair) in Winston-Salem. Showmanship (youth ages 18 and under) and a skill-a-thon (youth ages 8-18) will take place both days.


Check-in 7 AM - 9 AM both mornings (Cattle are Saturday and Sheep/Goats on Sunday)

Show starts at 11 AM both mornings.

Saturday Schedule: Hereford, Commercial, Percentage Simmental, Simmental, Angus, All Other Registered Breeds, Market Steers, then showmanship (youngest to oldest)

Sunday Schedule: Meat-type Breeding Ewes, Market Lambs, Sheep Showmanship (youngest to oldest), Meat-type Breeding Does, Market Kids, Goat Showmanship (youngest to oldest)

From 52 north take Akron drive, Exit number 112. Turn left off the exit ramp onto Akron drive (or from the 52 South take 112 and turn right onto Akron Drive.). Cross over 52. Turn left at McDonald's (on your right) and Hanes Community Center (on the left) onto Reynolds Blvd. Go thru the stoplight at Indiana Avenue and turn left onto Shorefair drive. Go through the stoplight at Deacon Blvd. At the stop sign, turn right onto 27th street. Take the first right into gate 8 (or the second right to gate 9). Follow the drive up and to your left pass the maintenance shed, home & garden building, fair administrative office and turn to the right between the Yesterday Village and the livestock (cattle barn) for vet health check and unloading. ALL species will be housed in the Livestock (cattle barn). There are several pens available for the sheep and goats.

Parking: You may park anywhere along the livestock barn, the agriculture building, arena 1, the parking lot next to Gate 8, etc. Please do not block any driveways, or entrances. Please leave the parking next to the barn for people that are NOT stalling inside. Please do NOT park in the farmers’ market lot (sheep/goat/swine barn).


Food

We will have plated lunches both days. Each plate will cost $5. All of the food will be housed in Arena 1 (the picnic shelter). The skill-a-thon will also be in Arena 1.

Anyone who has been out of the country within the preceding 2 weeks are asked not to attend the show because of possible disease transmission.



General Rules

  1. Youth must be 18 or younger on 1/1/2022.

  2. No nursing cows, does or ewes.

  3. Wethers and steers must be completely healed from castration.

  4. Show management reserves the right to limit the number of head.

  5. Out of state animals must have health papers.

  6. All animals must be vet checked prior to unloading. Vets will only be on site from 6 PM-9 PM and 7 AM-9 AM. Please do not arrive early or late.

  7. All sheep and goats must comply with USDA and NCDA&CS Scrapie Eradication Program guidelines. Sheep and goats without a scrapie tag, or a registration paper with corresponding tattoo or microchip information at the time of check-in will not be allowed.

  8. You do NOT have to be currently enrolled in 4-H to participate.

  9. ONLY Meat-type animals may be entered (goats, sheep and cattle).

  10. All animals must be less than two years of age as of the show date.

  11. Females will be sorted into groups by animal’s date of birth. Does and ewes will be weighed and sorted within their age groups (lambs/kids & yearlings). Market classes which will be sorted by weight.

  12. We will provide bedding in the barns and no outside bedding will be allowed.

  13. Animals may be housed in the barn (some pens will be provided for small animals and tie spaces for cattle) OR you may show “off your trailer”. Please note that we have to pay labor and rental on ALL pens that are put up/taken down so we try to limit pens as much as possible.

  14. If you tie out or tie to your trailer, all bedding and/or hay must be removed from the grass.

  15. Exhibitors and or their representatives are expected to follow the 4-H Code of Conduct and Dress Code.


General Schedule

  1. Beef cattle may arrive Saturday 7 AM-9 AM.

  2. Sheep and goats may arrive Sunday 7 AM-9 AM.

  3. Every species will begin with breeding classes at 11 AM both days, and then be followed with market classes and showmanship from youngest to oldest. Sunday we will show sheep before goats.

  4. Showmanship ages are “Fun” class for youth 7 and under, 8-10, 11-14 and 15-18 and will be based on age as of January 1, 2022.

  5. Exhibitor should exhibit their own animal unless there is a hardship.

  6. An exhibitors' meeting will be held both days at 9:15 AM. Optional devotions will be held on the University Parkway side of the bleachers at 9 AM Sunday.

  7. You are released to leave as soon as you are finished showing, but we ask that you not disrupt others.

  8. A skill-a-thon will be offered during the show on both days at the exhibitor’s convenience from 10 AM until 1 PM. Skill-a-thon is for youth ages 8-18.



Entry Fees

$15 per head for cattle

$10 per head for sheep/goats

Entries should be postmarked by March 7, 2022.

Late entries should be received by March 14, 2022 by 5 PM and should pay a total of $25 per head for cattle and $15 per head for sheep/goats. Late entries must be complete or they may be rejected.

A refund will be offered for scratches made by March 7. After March 7, if you entered them, you owe for them ALL!

Cattle Show Rules

Ten head of heifers entered and received before March 7th and present with registration papers will merit a separate breed show.


Cattle Prizes

The supreme champion heifer will receive a minimum of $100. The reserve supreme will receive a minimum of $50.

Every cattle breed that has its own individual show will receive grand and reserve champion prizes.

Every first place class winner will receive a prize.

Sheep and Goat Prizes

The grand champion doe, market goat, market lamb and ewe will all receive a minimum of $50 and a prize. The reserve champion doe, market goat, market lambs and ewe will all receive a minimum of $25 and a prize.

Every first place class winner will receive a prize.

Additional prizes will be determined by sponsorships.


Beyond The Ring Junior Livestock Association

We are excited to be a Beyond The Ring Junior Livestock Association (BTRJLA) sanctioned show! If you would like more information about BTRJLA and how to become a member, please visit their website at https://btrjla.com. Being a member of BTRJLA is not mandatory to show at Clover Classic, but it does give the exhibitor a chance at more awards throughout the year.
