My name is Audrey and I am a freshman at North Carolina State University in the Honors College. This website is my final project for an Honors seminar titled "The Feelings of/from Technology". The purpose of this website advertisement is to educate viewers about the Chinese Social Credit System and to inform viewers about the benefits and dangers that come from intense technological surveillance within society. While there are many benefits of surveillance like lower crime rates, increased accountability, and boosted public morality, the satirical content within the website is used for educational purposes to display the harmful ways that citizens are impacted by surveillance like living a fearful life, feeling invaded, anxious awareness, and subject-forming. While surveillance is usually implemented in order for good, the abundance of surveillance can make individuals feel as though they are being watched in all aspects of their life and therefore start to view themselves as subjects in the bigger picture as well. This is referred to as subject forming as citizens hyper-focus on their actions within society and how they are perceived rather than focusing on their own personal experience.
