Unlock the potential of AI in your classroom with our ChatGPT Workshop!
Our workshop series delves into the capabilities and applications of ChatGPT, providing K-12 educators with essential insights and practical tools to harness the power of AI in the classroom. The sessions cover a wide range of topics, beginning with an introduction to ChatGPT and how to prompt engineer, followed by a deep dive into the risks and responsibilities associated with AI. We'll explore effective ways of integrating ChatGPT into the classroom and wrap up with the potential of AI tutors and the future of education. Each session features slides, short videos summarizing key points, and a comprehensive teaching guide to assist you in implementing this new AI technology effectively in educational settings.
Who is this for?
K–12 educators who are eager to learn more about AI, explore how they can use it for teaching, and discover how students can leverage it to enhance their learning experiences.
Why is this workshop useful?
We held this workshop at NC State University from June 20 to 23, 2023, with six K-12 teachers attending. Our workshops received overall positive feedback, e.g., in the first two sessions, an overall satisfaction rate of 91% and a 100% inclination to recommend the workshop to a colleague was achieved. After participating in the workshops and learning about ChatGPT’s use cases and pitfalls, teachers indicated they were planning on including ChatGPT in their lesson plans with students.
Research-Validated Impact
Our workshop's effectiveness has been formally validated through peer-reviewed research published in IEEE's Frontiers in Education. Our resulting paper, "Empowering Secondary School Teachers: Creating, Executing, and Evaluating a Transformative Professional Development Course on ChatGPT" is available online. This work contributes to the growing body of research on AI in education and provides a vetted, comprehensive resource for secondary educators seeking to enhance their technological competencies.
Our key findings include:
Enhanced technological competencies among secondary educators as a result of workshop participation
Comprehensive evaluation of the workshop's transformative effects on teaching practices
Evidence-based validation of our curriculum design and implementation methods
Demonstrated success in addressing the critical need for AI literacy in K-12 education
