Hello everyone, I am glad you found your way here! I’m Ashley Van Havere, a North Carolina State University alumni with a Bachelor's degree in Communication with minors in Journalism, English and Psychology. I work full-time as a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) with Spectrum News 1 in Greensboro, N.C.
Driven by a passion for storytelling and a commitment to truth, I focus on uncovering the stories that matter most, whether through investigative, feature, weather, or sports reporting. My favorite journalism is working with non-profits and community outreach/projects that benefit those who are going through difficult times and need the support of their community. I believe in the power of journalism to inform, challenge, and inspire change.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually spending time with friends and family, attending church events/Bible studies, trying new restaurants/cafes, going shopping specifically supporting small businesses, and volunteering in my community.
I served as a writer and editor for the news and features sections of my high school newspaper, Rampant Lines, for three years. In 2022, I contributed to the Technician, the student newspaper at NC State University. I landed my first internship at WNCT-9 News in Greenville, N.C., during the summer before my junior year, where I was given the opportunity to go on air at the end of the summer. I was offered a part-time reporting position at WNCT-9 from Dec. 26-29 in 2023. I started my own segment on NC State's news channel, PackTV, called "Leader of the Pack," where I interviewed leaders from various campus organizations and departments on their leadership role. In addition, I completed an internship with WNCN-CBS 17 News in Raleigh. I landed a position in the prestigious fellowship program with Spectrum News 1 in Raleigh, N.C. Here I worked alongside talented professionals to learn more about and get hands-on experience in reporting, producing and digital content.
Whether it's conducting insightful interviews, crafting compelling feature stories, or producing dynamic video content, I bring a positive, collaborative energy to every project. I am able to connect with people on a genuine level which enables me to draw out the best in others, creating an environment where stories can be shared openly and authentically.
My technical skills span a range of industry-standard tools, including Adobe InDesign, Audition, and Premiere, as well as Final Cut Pro, Audacity, CapCut, and iMovie. With experience in both print and broadcast, I have developed a keen eye for detail and a strong ability to work under tight deadlines, while always prioritizing accuracy and integrity in my reporting.
As a team player, I thrive in collaborative settings, taking on responsibilities with a strong sense of accountability and a commitment to achieving shared goals.
My long-term goal is to become a journalist who not only reports the news but also drives positive change by highlighting solutions to society's challenges. I aspire to work in a newsroom where collaboration is key, and I can contribute to impactful stories that make a difference in the lives of viewers, readers, and listeners. Ultimately, I hope to inspire others to see the power of their own voice and recognize the strength in telling their stories.
