In packet switched networks, buffering too much data at routers causes unacceptable network performance, such as high latency, network jitter, and decreased throughput. To prevent too much data from being buffered at a router, Active Queue Management reduces buffer size before a queue becomes full. This work introduces Neighborhood Watch, an enhanced AQM policy that reports congestion in a router to its upstream neighbor to modify its neighbor’s egress drop policy.
This work was performed as a course project for Software Defined Networking taught by Dr. Rudra Dutta in Spring 2018.
