This is a placeholder flyer, so Morganton folks, disregard the Bryan desk mention and head to your main signout office!
For seniors, what were called "tips" or "tickets" in LiveSafe and the Student Travel Permission Form submissions are all rolled up under the "Passes" umbrella in Orah.
You should check out Orah's guide to passes linked up above for the general overview but here are some NCSSM-specific details:
When you submit a Missing Curfew, Overnight, or Travel 30+ Miles pass, your legal guardian(s) will receive an email notification to endorse, deny, or request a resubmission of that pass. Student Life staff will no longer call your legal guardian(s) to confirm your requests; we're relying on them to respond to those email notifications. If your legal guardian(s) are the one picking you up, they can ignore the email notification and we will approve the pass at signout.
You will be able to see the status of your scheduled pass in Orah throughout this whole process.
When it is time for you to leave campus, you will still sign out at the CC office with whomever is picking you up. This part is unchanged from last year's process. We will check the ID of the person picking you up vs. what your legal guardian(s) have approved on the scheduled pass, and you'll be all good to go!
If your legal guardian(s) have NOT endorsed the scheduled pass by the time you need to check out, this will slow down the signout process for everyone. We will call them to confirm the details of your scheduled pass and then approve it if they give us verbal confirmation.

Posted at most building entrances/lobbies, you will find a small gray and white tile with the Orah logo on it (right). You can use the Orah app on your phone and your phone's NFC scanner to end your signout pass and check back into campus. If you don't use the Orah app when swiping your phone by the tile, you will just be taken to the 'download student app' page.
You cannot end the pass* without swiping your phone by one of these tiles. We currently have one tile posted at the most heavily trafficked parts of our campuses, but we will probably end up having multiple tiles at the busiest parts of campus if we are to roll this out for next year.
*The only pass you can end on your own via the app is Day/Local. The other passes require a staff member or an NFC tile swipe to end.
Here is a step by step breakdown of checking back in using these tiles:
From the homepage of the app, select the "New" plus sign at the bottom of the page.
Then select the Orah logo icon right above the bottom of the page.
Place your phone near the NFC tag. This may take some figuring out for your phone model the first few times.
You are all set!
Creating a pass: it only takes about 20-30 seconds!
For Day/Local, be sure to include your companion. These passes will automatically activate shortly after creating them, if you didn't put in a departure time, or when the departure time you put in comes around. You do not need to activate a Day/Local pass.
For all other passes, you need to sign out with an on-duty CC and they will activate the pass for you.
Ending a pass: three options!
Day/Local: click your Off Campus location to pull up the pass and hit "End Pass"
all passes: select "New" at the bottom of the app and then click the Orah logo icon to use the NFC tile to check back in to campus, which ends your pass
all passes: talk to an on-duty CC if you have any issues ending it yourself

You can email Justin (plummer@ncssm.edu) or Jainny (jainny.estrada@ncssm.edu) if you need help troubleshooting anything in Orah. You can also check out Orah's help center to see if your issue is addressed there.
With any new system and process, we are bound to run into issues as we learn to navigate it. We'll update this section with more common issues people have when trying to sign out with Orah and what to do to avoid or to fix them.
You need to have the Orah app, select "New" from the buttons on the bottom of the homepage and then "Location". The app will then say "Ready to scan". If you don't follow these instructions and just try to use your phone's NFC scanner, it will direct you to the Orah homepage to download the app.
