NCHS Student Opinions
Sadie Hawkins
by Addison Nalywaiko
The Sadie Hawkins dance is a casual dance where the girl gets to ask the guy. I love that this dance is well known, starting all the way since 1938
On March 12th we will be hosting our very own Sadie Hawkins dance for Northwest Christian High School. We will be having two themes, country and country club. Each ticket is $20. This dance motivates people to go out of their comfort zone and have fun. Our dance is gonna be at the Thurston County Fairgrounds and the students are so excited about the dance!
I've asked some people what they think about the dance and this is what everyone said:
“I think it’s going to be fun :) since I’ve never been to a Sadie Hawkins Dance!”
-Theo
I think it would be a fun place to hang out with friends
-Ethan
“I think it is a fun chance to bond with people more and maybe meet some people you do not know”
-Anna
“It will be fun to see who dresses up for which theme. We should have a contest to see who dresses up the best like Country or Country club!”
-Delaney
We are all super excited about the dance so I hope to see you there!!

The Dangers of Pretty
By: Ilee Morgan
Just about everyone has at least heard of “feminism,” and for the most part, it tends to be frowned apon. Personally, I believe that feminism and other movements towards equality should be recognised as a plea for help. Feminism would not exist if women did not feel threatened or misrepresented by men, and the word pretty is at the heart of this problem.
Society has long valued the way we look- and that goes for everyone, men and women alike- and this is very dangerous to the average individual. I feel like this is especially harmful to young girls who have grown up with social media platforms such as Instagram teaching them to value looks over all else. After growing up with only the sight of filtered perfection, it is hard to let go of the idea that you have to be perfect. Obviously this is going to be a catastrophe for women who are told that they are “ugly” or “not good enough.” However, girls who are quote-on-quote “pretty” might have an even harder time with this, due to feelings like they can’t ever be themselves and they have to fit in perfectly with the idea of what society deems “good.”
Most importantly, we must remember that our worth is not based on our looks. Pretty is weak compared to the beauty of strength and intelligence. Because a pretty face is nothing compared to eyes alight with intelligence. Pretty stands no chance against Intensity, and truth and power. We cannot and should not place all of our worth in the word “pretty.” Because whether you are pretty or not, it will cost you. Instead, place your worth in what makes you unique, what makes you you, what makes you beautiful. The world does not need another perfect cookie-cutout of a girl, it needs you.

What do you think about Valentine’s Day?
By Genevieve Augur
I think your enjoyment of valentines day depends if you feel loved or not. It's easier to give something if you have a lot of it, but that's just my personal opinion. I wanted to know what others thought about Valentine's Day, so I interviewed other people to see what their opinions are.
“I think it's cool but not that important.”
Avery
“It’s marketing for chocolate companies.”
Mr. Dunn
“ It's nice since it could be platonic, spiritual or parental love.”
Elianna
“It's a cool way to bring people together, and show love to your loved ones.”
Joseph
“Its really cool, but it also makes single people feel lonely”
John Ramos
“It's just another day to me”
Isaiah
As you see, the opinions on Valentine's day are varied. My main takeaway is that Valentine's Day is not all that important and there are many ways to celebrate.
