What we're learning

Camping We Will Go!

This week, we will dive into the fascinating world of Earthworms by reading nonfiction texts and asking and answering questions about these incredible creatures. Did you know that worms play a vital role in the environment by eating dead leaves and plants? It's truly amazing how much of an impact these tiny creatures have on our ecosystem!

Fun Activity:
As part of our learning activities, we will follow a fun recipe for "dirt pudding." We encourage you to try this activity at home with your child. Remember the gummy worm!

This week, the students will sort and compare worms. Additionally, our four-year-olds will graph the different types of worms. It's a great hands-on way for them to apply their math skills!

Letter from Mrs. Schmidt

Dear Families,

I am excited to announce the dramatic play center is changing into a campsite!  We will build math, literacy, science, and social skills during our pretend play!

Students can pretend to be campers and go camping with their families.  The campers can pack, set up the campsite, build a fire, cook over the fire, have a picnic, roast marshmallows, eat s'mores, sing songs around the fire, and sleep in a tent.

Students will be building various math and literacy concepts during their play! When they pack, they will be counting items and reading the labels.  When they make s'mores, they will be sequencing.  They will write and draw about nature when they go on a hike or nature walk.  When students go fishing, they sort and count their fish.  Students will communicate their wants, needs, and ideas with their peers, developing their oral language skills the entire time!

During pretend play, students will be developing many social skills, too! Here are some skills they will be working on:
