A digital badge is a digitized token of recognition for acquiring a skill, demonstrating a competency, or for sharing knowledge gained from the completion of an activity or project. As more of our learning comes by way of digital connections and contributions, badges are becoming a more prominent method of acknowledging skills and accomplishments.

We offer students choices in their learning--teachers and other staff should be allowed to have choices in their learning as well. Digital Badges are a fun way to complete this task. Teachers at North County R-I Schools now have the opportunity to select what technology they want to learn while also earning credit!

According to John Jennings and Ben Roome, "Badges provide a unique opportunity to allow teachers to expand their professional knowledge in ways that are relevant, valuable and engaging. Badges help teachers focus on relevant professional developments opportunities because they support personalized learning. Rather than the old model in which professional development is offered in a seminar or lecture setting, teachers can choose the learning they want to pursue based on what will be most relevant to them and their students. Badges are earned based on learning evidence rather than just seat time." To read more...click HERE.
