Newark Charter School is now using Infinite Campus, a web-based Student Information System (SIS) for many applications across campus.
Here is what you need to know:
What's changing:
Infinite Campus Student and Parent Portal will be replacing the eSchoolPlus Home Access Center (HAC) starting in the 2025-2026 school year.
What's not changing:
Schoology will still be the system of record for assignments, scores, and the daily email digest. Schoology will integrate with Infinite Campus

Students and families are welcome to visit the school in an open house format during the designated time to find their classroom, meet their teacher and confirm transportation arrangements. Students new to Newark Charter School will also receive their school-issued Chromebook at that time. Visitation times and parking instructions are as follows:

All families must park at the Senior High School (200 McIntire Drive). Starting at 2:45 pm shuttle buses will transport families to and from the Meece Campus throughout the event. During the trip to the Meece campus, families are encouraged to review the expectations regarding appropriate behavior while on a school bus.
It is recommended that you arrive to the Senior High School 15 minutes before your child’s assigned start time. This will ensure that you have enough time to arrive at the High School, transport to the Meece Campus and take part in the Meet Your Teacher event.

Once the school year officially begins, Newark Charter School will distribute the Bi-Weekly Bulletin to parents via email. It will also be posted on our school website. If you are not receiving email communications from the school, please contact the office so that we can update your student’s record with a parent/guardian email address.
IMPORTANT: In an effort to make sure that all important information reaches our families, Mr. Golder will send a recorded phone message on July 21st. If you do not receive a phone call, it most likely means that the school does not have your correct phone number in the system. Please call the office of your child's building to update your phone number so that you receive future messages.

Newark Charter School's philosophy of professionalism and decorum should be reflected in the style of dress for students, staff, and administrators. As our students progress through their educational career at NCS, it is our goal for our High School students to become accustomed to being dressed in attire reflecting college and career readiness. To abide by this, we have adopted a board-approved uniform that includes school shirts and sweaters with embroidered school logos, which can be purchased through the school's approved vendors listed below.
On the first day of school, all students, Kindergarten through 12th grade, are required to report to school with the current red, white and blue NCS logo embroidered on all tops.
Jumpers are only able to be worn for grades K-5 on the Meece Campus.
We recommend purchasing uniforms now to allow enough time to ensure that orders are delivered well before the first day of school.

Newark Charter School has an Spirit Wear Online Store that is open 365 days a year and ships items directly to your home! The site offers a wide range of items, ranging in styles, designs, and price points. The site also offers our community the opportunity to customize items. If you are a proud Softball Mom, you can add "Mom" to a Softball T-Shirt. You can even add your last name to the back of T-Shirts, and much more!
School-wide Spirit Days for students and staff are traditionally the last Friday of the month and are the only time NCS Spirit Wear can be worn during the school day.

The Primary and Intermediate School (Grades K-5) academic day is 8:45 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. All K–5 car riders must use the 2001 Patriot Way entrance. The new loop road (accessed via Interchange Blvd) is for buses only. Students must stay in their vehicle until 8:15 a.m. Students dropped off from 8:15 – 8:30 a.m. will report to their respective gyms until 8:30 a.m. At 8:30 a.m. students will be permitted to move to their classrooms.
Students who arrive from 8:30 – 8:45 a.m. will be dropped off at the Commons main entrance and report directly to their classrooms.Starting at 3:20 p.m. car riders will be dismissed. We will dismiss in three waves: red wave at 3:20 p.m., blue wave at 3:30 p.m., and gray wave at 3:40 p.m. Again, all car riders are to utilize the Patriot Way entrance. Bus rider dismissal begins at 3:25 p.m.
The Junior High School (Grades 6-8) academic day is 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Students are expected to be in the building by 7:25 a.m. or will be marked late. Doors open at 7:05 a.m. All Junior High School car riders must use the 1089 Elkton Road entrance. Students must stay in their vehicle until 7:05 a.m. Students dropped off from 7:05 – 7:15 a.m. will report to the cafetorium until 7:15 a.m. At 7:15 a.m. students will be permitted to move to their classrooms.
The Senior High School (Grades 9-12) academic day is 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Students are expected to be in the building by 7:25 a.m. or will be marked late. Students must stay in their vehicle until 7:15 a.m. when doors open.

The school-issued Chromebook is for instructional purposes both in and out of the school. The previously issued Chromebook will continue to belong to your NCS student. We ask that all families once again familiarize themselves with NCS expectations and Chromebook policies. This can be accomplished by reviewing the Chromebook video.
Prior to August 25, all NCS families with students in grades 2-12 must complete the following:
· Watch the Chromebook video available on our website
· Pay the annual $30 non-refundable Chromebook Accidental Protection fee.
The payment will serve as your acknowledgment that parents and students watched the video and agree to all the terms found within.
**This is not required for students entering 1st grade and Kindergarten.**

An email will be sent to all families at the end of July with information about the School Nutrition program and when open ordering for August/September for K-5 meals will begin.
We encourage all families who believe they may qualify for free or reduced lunch status to please complete the meal benefit form. Eligible families will also be able to receive financial assistance for academic needs such as, but not limited to: Chromebook fees, field trips, athletic fees, and advanced placement fees. Please note voluntary trips that occur beyond the school day, trips that are not directly connected to the curriculum, trips to national competitions, etc. are exclusions to receiving financial assistance.
If your child has an allergy or has special dietary needs as prescribed by your physician, please contact the Director of School Nutrition to discuss alternate meal options.

Each year a new action plan is required for students with asthma, life threatening food allergy, seizures, diabetes, migraines, or any other medical chronic diagnoses. Please provide these to your building’s nurse by the start of school. You can find action plan forms to be filled out on our school website under Health Information.
Please remember all entering Kindergarten students need to have all their health physicals and immunization records into the Primary School nurses by August 19, 2025.
All 9th grade students are required to have a health physical (that has been done since 8/1/2023) on file with the high school nurses office. Also, they are required to provide documentation of the student having received a TDaP vaccine and at least one dose of the meningococcal vaccine. Please provide them to the high school nurses no later than August 19th.

Summer Reading
All students in grades 9-12 are expected to complete a summer reading assignment. The summer assignments are listed here by course: Summer Reading Assignments. Please purchase the novel listed and complete all required assignments by the due dates listed in the spreadsheets. You are welcome to email the teachers listed if you have any questions about the assignment for your course. We look forward to discussing the novels with you in August!

Students in grades 9-12 are required to purchase the novels that will be studied in their English classes. Fall sports season will be here before we know it at the Junior High School! We are very lucky to have some wonderful sports opportunities for our students! We have supportive and knowledgeable coaches for all of our sports!

The most important first steps for families to take are:
Register your child on Snap Manage (choose the sports they are interested in playing)- THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP- if your child is not registered for a sport, they will not show up on the coaches roster as an athlete that is trying out and therefore will NOT be allowed to tryout. Tryout lists are generated from this registration. There will no longer be a google interest form as in past years.
Submit their DIAA physical on Snap Manage for Newark Charter Jr. High - ALL PHYSICALS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY MONDAY AUGUST 18th so that they can be reviewed. Please make sure you are registering your child on the JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL Page if they are trying out for a team at the Junior High School. Detailed instructions are linked here!
**Please understand that we have hundreds of students that try out for fall sports. If you submit your physical after August 18th there is no guarantee that your child will be cleared in time to participate in tryouts therefore they would not be eligible to participate in a fall sport.
THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT PHYSICALS ON PAPER OR VIA EMAIL. We are mirroring the Senior High School with our submission and collection of physicals. Everything is done via the Snap Manage site.
Attention 8th grade families- If your child has the potential of playing a sport at BOTH the Junior and Senior high school, they must be registered on BOTH sites and physicals submitted on both sites. The athletic directors from the Senior High and the Junior High do not have the option to “share” submissions. There are two different sites.
All physical clearances for the 2025-2026 school year must be dated after April 1, 2025.

August 27th and 28th - Tryouts for grades 6-8 in the Junior High School Gym from 3:00-5:00. There will be two teams chosen, an A Team and a B Team.

Cross Country
Tryouts will be Thursday August 28th and Tuesday September 2nd from 5:00-6:15 at Carpenter Area of White Clay Creek State Park (880 New London Rd, Newark, DE 19711). All runners must be at both tryouts and the team will be communicated before the first official practice on September 4th.

We are looking forward to an exciting fall with the addition of Varsity Patriot Football. Their opening game is against the Christiana HS on Thursday, August 28th at 7PM. We hope you consider joining us that evening for our Kick-Off, with further information coming in the August newsletter. This past fall was very successful as all teams qualified for the DIAA playoffs. The Patriots look to improve on that performance in the fall of 2024. Roll Pats!
The Patriots are exploring the possibility of Girls' Flag Football this fall. This will only be a club sport this fall with an abbreviated schedule. More information to follow on this.
Fall sports begin on August 4th for Football and the Week of August 11th for Field Hockey, Boys Soccer, Volleyball and Cross Country. Unified Flag Football will start the first week of September. For information on tryouts please go to the Team Info tab for your respective sport. For any general athletic questions please contact Greg Shivery at greg.shivery@ncs.k12.de.us. For sports specific questions please contact the head coach. Coach's emails can be found under the coach's tab of your sport of interest. To receive additional information about your sport of interest, sign up for Stack Team App. You can find it in your App Store on your phone. Download it to your phone and then search for NCHS Fall Sports.
Student athletes from 8th through 12th grades are eligible to try out as long as they have a cleared physical on file and are in good academic standing. Physicals are due one week prior to the start of your team's season. Any DIAA Physical forms submitted after that time will take a two-day processing period. Student athletes cannot participate until they have a cleared physical on file. We have a new process for turning in physicals. Please see that information for SNAP Mobile below. Attention Parents and Athletes: New Platform for DIAA Sport Physical Submission
We are excited to announce a new and convenient way to submit your sport physicals! Starting this year, all physical forms must be submitted through our online platform Snap! Manage, making the process quicker and more organized.
How to Submit Your Physical:
1. Log In: Visit our new online platform

2. Create an Account: If you are a first-time user, parent/guardian please create an account.
3. Complete Athlete Profile: On the home page please click create participate and fill out all the required information. (8th graders please put this year for enrollment)
4. Begin Registration: Once a profile is made please make sure the athlete is registered for the sport/sports they plan on trying out for.
5. Upload Your Physical: Once the profile is created and the athlete is registered then go into their profile and upload the DIAA physical. Please make sure the physical is uploaded as one file using Word or as a PDF. The DIAA physical is 5 pages and all 5 should be completed and uploaded.
6. Confirmation: You will receive an immediate confirmation email once your athlete is registered and it should show pending physical once uploaded.
7. Approved: Once a physical is approved on our end it will reflect on their profile. If a physical is not approved then an email will be sent with corrections needed.
Important Information:
· All physicals must be submitted by August 1st for the Fall season. Any physical submitted after this date will require a 2 day processing period before being approved.
· Make sure your physical is signed and dated by a physician after April 1, 2025.

Athletic Fees
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing our students with the best possible athletic experience, we are updating you on the new participation fees for our sports programs.
Fee Structure for the Upcoming 2025-26 School Year:
Junior High: A participation fee of $75 per sport season
High School: A participation fee of $125 per sport season
High School Football: A participation fee of $250
Our dedication to enhancing the athletic experience for our students has led to significant investments in our facilities. Newark Charter School is devoted to offering top-tier opportunities for our students and participation fees assist in doing so.
To pay your child's participation fee, please go to the payment center on our website. It is under "Student Fees." The ability to pay the fees will be activated on August 15.

Marching Band Details:
All students enrolled in high school band (grades 9-12) will participate in marching band, in some way. It's an exciting opportunity for students to meet others and make some new friends before the school year even starts!
For planning purposes, HS Marching Band rehearsals for all students enrolled in band will begin before school starts, from August 11–21, 2025. I've done my best to avoid conflicts with fall sports schedules and will communicate any necessary adjustments through GroupSpot (see information for that later on) for student-athletes, particularly those involved in Boys Soccer and XC.

To avoid missing any important updates over the summer, I will be using an app called GroupSpot to share information about rehearsals, performances, and other key events. Some of these key events are already loaded into GroupSpot so you can add them to your calendar. I'm asking all students joining HS Band next year to download the GroupSpot app on their phones. Once downloaded, use the join code: iwRJ to access our group.

Student drivers must secure a 2025-2026 parking permit to park on campus. The 2025-2026 Student Parking Application and payment link are now open. Permits will be distributed to seniors on their first day back - August 25 - and will be issued by seniority on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that with the upcoming additions to Gore Stadium and changes to the grass field (new turf), Parking Lot C will be unavailable until spring 2026.

Newark Charter School is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our daily substitute pool for Instructional (Teacher & Para-Professional), Nurse, and Facilities roles. Applicants must provide a current resume, a copy of their criminal background check, and TB test results. The minimum age to apply is 21 for instructional and nurse positions, and 18 for facilities positions. A college degree or specific educational experience is not required. Annual Fundraising Event: New this year ~ NCS Casino Night/Gala will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Volunteers are needed to assist with planning the event as well as assisting the night of the Gala. Contact Sharon Dorr at sharon.dorr@ncs.k12.de.us for more information and the meeting schedule.
Athletic Boosters: Volunteers are needed to become involved with Athletic Boosters to support our high school and junior high student-athletes and teams. All interested parents are welcome; Boosters activities include coordinating periodic team and school-wide Spirit Wear sales, coordinating and staffing concession booths, assisting with Homecoming activities, serving as team liaisons, as well as hosting the annual Patriot Open Golf Tournament. Monthly meetings are held at the High School and are generally held the 2nd Monday of the month in the High School library at 6:30 pm. The first meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 8th.

Military Connected Youth
The Delaware Department of Education has requested that all Delaware public schools identify students who are enrolled in their school that are considered “military connected youth”. This is necessary to ensure school officials are aware of their military connection should they require any special services or supports. “Military Connected Youth" means any student having an immediate family member, including a parent, stepparent, sibling or any other person residing in the same household, who is on active duty, serving in the reserve component, or recently retired from a branch of the United States Armed Forces (United States Army, United States Air Force, United States Marine Corps, United States Navy, National Guard, United States Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or the United States Public Health Service). Code of Conduct
Newark Charter School has developed a Student Code of Conduct that was approved by the School Council and the Board of Directors. It specifically outlines school rules and regulations, specific consequences for infractions, attendance policies and uniform guidelines. Each family with students in grades K-12 will receive an electronic copy of the Student Code of Conduct. It is also available online on the Newark Charter School website. Please
review the Code of Conduct and complete the digital signature (signature portal will be available in the 2nd Summer Bulletin going out in August)
In addition, each student and parent will be required to sign the agreement form located in the front of the document. Included in the Code are the procedures that must be followed according to a Delaware law called House Bill 322 (HB 322). Under HB 322, certain code offenses will result in serious consequences that include bringing legal charges against a student. Some of these offenses are assault, threatening or offensively touching a staff member, and possession of a weapon or dangerous instrument. Notification to Division of Family Service (DFS)
According of State of Delaware regulations, when an employee of Newark Charter School knows or in good faith suspects child abuse or neglect, he or she is required to make a report to DFS. Failure to do so is a crime. Theentire staff of Newark Charter School annually completes the required training provided by the State of Delaware.
School Security
Newark Charter School has been fully compliant with the Comprehensive School Safety Omnibus Safety Act since its inception. To be compliant, Newark Charter School:
Has a School Safety Plan that aligns with the Delaware Department of Homeland Security requirements;
The school’s Safety Plan, including rally points, building plans and other campus-specific information is maintained on a secure server (Emergency Response Information Portal) that can be accessed by first responders;
Conducts monthly drills including but not limited to: fire drills, heightened security drills, bus evacuation drills, etc.;
Conducts at least two intruder/lockdown drills each school year;
Conducts at least two tabletop exercises (walk-through of Emergency Action Plans) each school year.
Tobacco Policy
In an effort to adhere to Delaware Code (11 DE Reg. 1463) and to improve the health of students and school personnel, Newark Charter School has adopted the following policy regarding the use or distribution of tobacco:
Possession or use of tobacco and tobacco-related products is not permitted in the school buildings, on school grounds, in leased or owned vehicles, even when they are not used for student purposes, and at all school-affiliated functions.
In addition to the staff and students of Newark Charter School this policy applies to:
All buildings, property or vehicles leased, owned or operated by Newark Charter School.
School bus operators under contract shall be considered staff for the purpose of this policy.
Any private building or other property including automobiles or other vehicles used for Newark Charter School activities when students and staff are present.
Any non-educational groups utilizing and renting school buildings or other educational assets.
Any individual or a volunteer who supervises students off school grounds

Asbestos Notification
In accordance with Environmental Protection Agency regulations, schools are required to report to parents and teachers whether their buildings contain any asbestos. Newark Charter School does not have any asbestos-bearing materials.
Each of the companies that provided construction materials for our school has submitted a letter stating that no asbestos-bearing materials have been used in the construction of this building. A complete file containing asbestos-related regulations is available by contacting the Head of School, Mr. Golder.
Parent's Right to Review and Teacher and Paraprofessional Qualifications
Parents of a student at Newark Charter School, have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child's classroom teachers and requires us to give you this information in a timely manner if you ask for it. Specifically, you have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child's classroom teachers.
If the teacher has met all Delaware licensing and certification requirements for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
If the teacher is teaching under an emergency or other provisional certificate because of special circumstances.
The teacher's undergraduate major, any advanced degrees and if so, the subject of the degrees, and
If any paraprofessional provides services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.

Community Notification Regarding Sex Offenders
Law enforcement is responsible for notifying the community of sex offenders in the area. This information is available on the State of Delaware website
By law, all adults or juveniles who are convicted or adjudicated of specific sex offenses are registered. Please note that not all sex offenders are child predators or pose a threat to children. School districts and charter schools must keep notifications of registered sex offenders received from the police in a binder in each school.
Schools must follow guidelines for distribution of the notifications they receive. The guidelines will be available on the Internet (https://education.delaware.gov/). The included notification may assist you in protecting your family. It is best that only parents and guardians share this information in an age-appropriate manner with their child or children so that the child will understand appropriate actions for their safety. Parents should use this information in an age-appropriate way that helps children with personal safety but does not overwhelm the child. Prevent Child Abuse Delaware, a non-profit agency, has developed a list of safety tips to assist parents in helping their child feel safe:
Review safety rules for your home.
Tell your child not to answer the door when you are not home and establish a plan for answering the telephone.
Make a list with your child of three safe grown-ups he/she can talk to if afraid or in trouble and you are not there.
Talk with your child about what places are safe to visit in your community.
Review with your child the four private places, which are the mouth, the breasts, the genitalia, and buttocks. Explain that no one should touch these places unless they are helping to keep the child healthy (exam by a doctor) or clean (bathing).
Encourage your child to tell you if someone talks to or touches him/her in a way that makes them feel bad or that he/she does not like.
Encourage open discussion with your child about his/her willingness to talk to grown-ups in your family about the things that bother him/her.
Determine if your child knows that the grown-ups in your family will listen to him/her. Ask yourself honestly if this is true. Do you and other adults in your family really listen to the children in your care?
Tell your child that it is not the child's fault if someone tries to bother him/her or touch him/her in a way they do not like.
Let your child know how special you think they are, encourage him/her to think of themselves as a person worthy of respect, who also respects others.
Treat and talk with your child in a way that conveys your respect.

Consolidated Grant
Newark Charter School is in the process of applying for federal money in several areas to support our staff and students. Through this grant, we will be able to fund our reading specialist positions (Title I& Title II), fund special education teacher positions (IDEA), and support career and technology pathways (Perkins Grant and Title IV). Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) sets out the requirements for educational institutions to notify parents and students of their rights for the protection of privacy under section 444 of the General Education Provisions Act.
Parents or eligible students have the right to: Inspect and review the student's education records; Seek amendment of the student's education records that the parent or eligible student believes to be inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student's privacy rights; Consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student's education records, except to the extent that the Act and §99.31 authorize disclosure without consent; and File with the Department a complaint under §§99.63 and 99.64 concerning alleged failures by the educational agency or institution to comply with the requirements of the Act and this part.
