Coding: writing commands in a specific language that a computer, robot, or other machine can understand. If you want a robot to walk forward, you can't just tell it to "walk forward"- you have to tell it what "walk" means and what "forward" means. Then you have to tell it when to start, when to stop, how fast to move, etc.
Coding isn't just sitting in front of the computer trying to remember keywords and spacing rules. Coding is interactive. In coding 7/8 you will work with Microbits, Lego Mindstorms, Sphero Bolt, and other robots that all use their own programming languages.
Next year we will begin a multi-level project with the Sphero Bolt.
We will work with my STEAM students to build tracks and obstacle courses that CODING students will then code and navigate. We will also work with Mr. Mayo's art classes to create works of art with code!
In Coding 8, you and your teammates will get the chance to build and code your own Vex Robot. You will design the robot to perform a task and then create code from scratch to complete that task.
