How to Submit
The Process of Submission:
Email Spectator (nchs.spectator@ncps-k12.org) with your submission
If your submission is for the magazine (a poem, short story, or art piece) simply copy and paste your work in the email. Be sure to include an attachment or an accessible link if necessary
If your submission is for the website (in the form of a podcast, short film, or spoken word video) rather than for the magazine, please specify that in your email and include an accessible link
Your work will be reviewed by the Spectator club anonymously
The club members will not know the name of the author/artist until the work is accepted
The club will suggest edits (grammar, punctuation, minor changes in word choice, etc) and possible revisions (more significant changes to the piece)
The club will vote as to whether to accept the piece with the edits or send it back with suggestions for revision
Should the piece be accepted with edits, the name of the author/artist will be revealed
If the piece will be returned for revisions, the name is not yet disclosed, but the author is encouraged to resubmit when revisions have been made
All work will eventually be compiled by the editors into the Spectator Literary Magazine
The book will be available in June of each year
Particularly exceptional work may be selected to be featured on the website
Why Submit to Spectator?
Spectator Magazine has been produced annually for multiple generations of NCHS students – we encourage students to become a part of this literary legacy
The Spectator Literary Magazine is an opportunity for students to share their work with peers, teachers, family, and friends
To be published in a literary magazine is a big accomplishment, and can help build up resumes, applications, and, of course, one's self-esteem
