In 2026, Giancarlo Monaghan was in 7th Grade. He noticed that Saxe staff & students would hear about school events or other school-related things the day of, or too late. He noticed that New Canaan High School has a school paper, so why doesn't Saxe? That's when the Hawks Gazette was born. When the idea was pitched to Mr. Gusitsch, he liked it and was willing to put it in his own newsletter: The Saxe Weekly. Now that we had a place to publish, Gino needed an extra set of eyes and ears. That's when a friend of his named Max asked to join. The two worked to get the Hawks Gazette in the school's library & main office. As more and more people & teachers began to read the paper, the team grew with the first advisor: Mr. Myers. Then, the team kept growing (This is when writers and others like Nico, Joe, Tiago, and Colin came along!). Every week, the team worked to provide the best news in all of Saxe, and just like that it went from 1 person to 2 people to 10! (Minus Mr. Gusitsch & Advisors). Now, the team works hard in their second school year to maintain that standard with a new and improved format to make the news more engaging.
But the publication is in danger when confusion & restriction plague the team's work & schedule. Now it is up to you! To keep the publication afloat, we ask that you support us by grabbing a copy and speaking up not just for the Hawks Gazette, but for free speech and expression of the students; Something we keep near and dear to us in every issue we write. "FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE"
