This Week's Pick: Mr. Flechs
Mr. Flechs is one of the Special Education teachers here at NCOE. He teaches English and science special education classes.
Tell us a little bit about your life before teaching.
Well, I originally went to Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and obtained my degree in Speech Pathology. I went into the job market and could not find a job, so I moved back and started teaching at Brownsville under special education.
What made you want to pursue this career?
Working with the special education program at Brownsville, actually. I fell in love with helping kids and went back to school to get my degree in Special education.
Whar are some of your favorite hobbies or interests?
I really enjoy playing golf, I occasionally like to binge watch TV shows, and I enjoy spending time with my son.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Typically, in the mornings I wake up and then get my son up and ready for school. Then, I go to work and handle all my classes for the day before going home. In the evenings, I typically play with my son and help him with homework before bed.
If you could change one thing about your job, what would it be?
Uh, I don't think there is anything I would like to change. I'm content with my job.
What is your favorite season of the year?
Hmm...I would have to say fall.
Who is your greatest inspiration?
It has to be a tie between my dad and my speech pathologist Professor from SIU. They have really impacted me.
What is the hardest thing about your job?
The hardest thing about my job is probably keeping up with the deadlines on the IEPs.
