Be sure to check your Canvas page! Students do not need instruments the first week.
All students will need to bring instruments to class. Brass players should bring a personal small washrag or unmatched, clean sock to be used to absorb condensation from the instrument. This item will go back and forth from home to school in the student’s case and should be considered just as important as the mouthpiece.

Hello, Dragons!
My name is Mrs. Sheppard and I am excited to be at Southern Middle!
I graduated from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education concentrating in Instrumental Music (K-12). While in college, I was a member of the Appalachian State University Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Basketball Band, and Marching Band. I served in various leadership positions in the ensembles she was a part of in college.
I was also involved in various extracurricular activities while in college - ask me about it sometime! I’ll be happy to share.
My goal in music education is to help shape the next generation with compassion, care, and appreciation for music while creating a reliable community in and out of the classroom.
