Tier 2 and 3 Teams
The What
The Tier 2/3 team is a school-based, problem-solving team. It is the engine that drives the MTSS process. It exists to proactively address system needs by reviewing school-wide data (within grade levels and classrooms) and support individual student growth by helping to monitor progress and make decisions for students receiving Tier 2 and 3 supports. This team's primary aims are to establish, monitor and adapt the systems at Tier 2 and 3.
The Why
Ensures that students receive targeted additional and intensified supports based on need.
Ensures that we are using data to inform our decisions, not just anecdotal information about our students.
Schools that are more collaborative have been shown to have stronger student academic outcomes than schools that are less collaborative.
Any system that relies on the knowledge and efforts of one individual is more susceptible to collapse when that individual leaves the position.
The How
Review universal screening data to determine which students need additional supports.
Engage in collective problem solving to determine if students are making adequate progress.
Make data-based decisions using universal screening data, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring data.
Support grade levels in serving students during intervention blocks in collaboration with the general education teacher. (students move fluidly through the grade-level during intervention block)

MTSS History Form
MTSS Student History Form
This form will eventually move to Synergy. Some schools will pilot Synergy use this year.
This form is meant to be a record for each student who receives additional Tier 2 or intensive Tier 3 supports as they progress through school.
The MTSS Team Facilitator should make a copy for each new student receiving tier 2 or 3 interventions. At the beginning of each year, the team facilitator will organize student files by grade level and class for easier access.
