About Mr. Hanlon

Hello Everyone! My name is Rolf Hanlon and this will be my 17th year of teaching with my last 12 years here at Happy Valley Middle School. Before HMVS I taught at Spring Mountain Elementary School in grades 4-6 where I taught math to all 6th graders. I feel very connected to the Happy Valley community and am looking forward to a great year.

I was born in the Bay Area of California but was raised in southwestern Connecticut. My undergraduate degree is from Western Connecticut State University and in 2006 I earned my masters degree from Lewis and Clark College here in Portland.

My wife and I moved to Portland back in 2004 from Washington DC. Our two boys (now aged 16 and 12) keep us busy with swim team and soccer practices and also piano and bassoon lessons. On the weekends you'll find us mountain biking, hiking and camping, and in the winter snowboarding, skiing, and summiting our mountains.
