Because A-Choir is the largest ensemble and studies the most advanced music, morning sectionals are a requirement for each section's members. For the first three weeks of each unit (September, Oct/Nov., January, April), Section Leaders in the choir will host (or "run") a 40 minute morning sectional in the choir room once a week before school. Students will earn 25 points for each sectional they attend, for a potential total of 300 points per student for the year.
For those students who cannot attend a sectional, they may make up the points by recording the part that the section studied that week as a WAV or mp3 and share it in Mr. Davis' Drive before the end of the week. If an electronic version of the student's work is not possible, that student must sing their part for their section leader or Mr. Davis.
Why do we have this policy? Mastery and growth always require practice. People often claim they want to be excellent at a skill ("I want to be able to play rippin' guitar solos"), but are often unwilling to practice to become excellent at that skill ("I don't have the time" or "It's too hard"). This policy teaches students the responsibility of being an integral member of an excellent varsity choir.
