About us (aka The Joy of Science!)

Have you ever been “scared” of the science of chemistry, with its complicated vocabulary? As you read the news or scroll through your social media feed, do the topics of climate change, water contamination, red tide, and air pollution attract your attention? Have you ever dreamed up a unique solution to an environmental problem that you or your friends thought was amazing? As a resident of the “Sunshine State,” have you ever considered new ways to leverage solar energy? As you explore this “Arts-in-Chemistry” website, you will encounter various artistic representations of core environmental chemistry concepts, through videos and Infographics of various experiment-based demonstrations. It emphasizes how the specific discipline of chemistry can help us understand environmental issues, and what it can tell us about possible solutions to environmental problems the world is facing. Chemistry is a discipline that will inevitably be embedded in a wide range of sustainable responses to these environmental challenges. The video demonstrations were prepared by three students from my Advanced Environmental Chemistry class, and the Infographics were prepared by students from my Introduction to Environmental Chemistry class.
