In the fall of 2019 (just before the onset of the pandemic), Madera Unified School District, in partnership with a wide range of community stakeholders and The National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE), undertook a process of transformation by redesigning its education system after the characteristics of top-performing education systems worldwide. This transformation is imperative if all Madera students are to graduate well prepared for multiple post-secondary options, which is the district's promise to its students and to the community.

In order to realize the vision, mission, and beliefs of Madera Unified School District as stated below, the district is engaged in two related community-wide initiatives:
1 - A promise to all students and to the community as to the type of citizens that Madera Unified will educate and develop. The Madera Unified Graduate Profile is a framework that articulates key 21st Century readiness skills that we want all district graduates to master. The Profile highlights six key areas: Think, Communicate, Collaborate, Produce, Adapt, and Contribute.
2 - An educational system, fully redesigned from early childhood through graduation, to support all students in achieving the promise of the Graduate Profile. Madera Unified assembled a large and diverse group of collaborative partners who leveraged 30 years of research on high-performing nations. Using leadership tools developed by the National Center for Education and the Economy (NCEE), Madera Unified is redesigning itself as a high-performing system comparable to any in the United States and around the world.
These two initiatives are tightly related, as you will see from the information provided throughout the rest of this report.
